About Us
When & how group was formed
The TC group was founded in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, year 1974, it began with the group calling itself the Tango Charlie QSL Swap & Friendship group. During that time many of the people were sending cards and other material like letters, pictures and brochures.
The group now works out of Southern Alberta, Canada, where I have lived since 1994 in the Village of Champion. In 1976 I started working the 11 meters Free Band. There were also many groups forming and chatting on 11 meters, making more personal contacts with friends, but with this group issuing numbers to Canadians only. The Areas were then 1-TC, thru 9-TC-. Provincial Divisions
This was working out to be popular, until Free Banding started being very active. Operators from other countries wanted a part in our group, so in 1977 without delay we decided to go International.
Membership for our group is FREE, but because the group has expenses, internet access, paper, printer material, mailing costs, a donation would be appreciated to help with those materials.
This was the start of, what is now known as the "Trans-Continental Dx Operators" using the International Number listing. 1 for Italy, 9 for Canada and so on.
During the past years we have had at a high point over 5768 signed up operators. We had over 1000 in Canada alone and members in 91 other countries.
Unfortunately, over the years, activity dropped off rapidly and the group is not growing but reducing in size due to inactive members. We have also lost many to Amateur Radio with the new relaxed rules that were established a few years ago. As well, we are finding that many operators are more interested in contests, expeditions, and specialized QSL's. All of which this group had never activated.
However, while our activity is dependent on the ups and downs of the sunspot activity, this group continues to remain active for FRIENDSHIP & COMMUNICATIONS.
